Walk Report November 9.
To accommodate the U3A Tutors/Rep’s/volunteers lunch, our walk began an hour earlier than usual, with 21 members setting off from the Napoleons Memorial Hall carpark at about 9.00am.to walk along the roads and tracks surrounding the town.
The cloud soon cleared and, in warm sunshine, we passed by lush, open sheep country and semi-rural farmlets and through straggly Messmate forest, scarred by the familiar pits, gullies and scattered quartz debris of gold mining.
Morning tea was taken by the roadside, enjoying the view across acres of green pasture dotted with sheep, much to the amusement of a few passing motorists.
Wildflowers were few and mainly the common varieties sighted on recent walks, except for the dozens of glorious Tiger orchids and bright patches of Chocolate Lily which were a very pleasant surprise. A quirky letterbox, wooden sculpture and a curious Clydesdale all added to the texture of the walk and we arrived back at the carpark a few minutes before 11.00am. as promised by Helen and Tim.
Many thanks to you both for an easy, most enjoyable and appropriate walk for the day.
HMcD.
