WALK REPORT AUGUST 28

On a cold morning last Thursday, 16 people gathered to explore some of the interesting tracks and streets of Insignia and Alfredton. We began at the Botanical Gardens and cut through beside the Tramway Museum to Insignia Blvd where we walked beside some very attractive waterways and noticed the very good planning that has been put into this area.

After crossing Sturt St we walked some lesser known areas in Alfredton, stopping at the Recreation Reserve for a banana break, before making our way to Cuthberts Rd and then up to the Arch of Victory and the Garden of the Grieving Mother. This memorial, inspired by World War One, acknowledges the suffering of those left behind, waiting for news of loved ones serving in foreign lands in times of war.

Crossing Sturt St once more, we walked beside the lake before reaching Piper’s, where coffee was enjoyed by the large number of people who stayed on.

Many thanks to Libby and Linda for a very enjoyable walk, and for ordering up some bonus sunshine!
