WALK REPORT AUGUST 28

On a cold morning last Thursday, 16 people gathered to explore some of the interesting tracks and streets of Insignia and Alfredton. We began at the Botanical Gardens and cut through beside the Tramway Museum to Insignia Blvd where we walked beside some very attractive waterways and noticed the very good planning that has been put into this area.

After crossing Sturt St we walked some lesser known areas in Alfredton, stopping at the Recreation Reserve for a banana break, before making our way to Cuthberts Rd and then up to the Arch of Victory and the Garden of the Grieving Mother. This memorial, inspired by World War One, acknowledges the suffering of those left behind, waiting for news of loved ones serving in foreign lands in times of war.

Crossing Sturt St once more, we walked beside the lake before reaching Piper’s, where coffee was enjoyed by the large number of people who stayed on.

Many thanks to Libby and Linda for a very enjoyable walk, and for ordering up some bonus sunshine!

WALK REPORT AUGUST 14

We were so lucky to have a perfect day for a very picturesque walk yesterday. Nine of us enjoyed a tranquil walk from Daylesford Lake to Tipperary Springs and back, with the sound of Sailors Creek in our ears as it coursed its way over rocks. The track has been very well repaired after storm damage but we could see its results in the numbers of downed trees along the way. Unfortunately we were unable to do the loop return as only one track has been reopened but good views were to be had from both directions. This is one of the prettiest walks out of Daylesford and on reaching the Springs, we all enjoyed the morning tea break in the  sun.

Afterwards we repaired to Frangos for coffee and cake before heading off for home. We were also very pleased to welcome Penny Barkas to the group.

AUGUST 14 BUSHWALK - Daylesford Lake to Tipperary Springs & return

Meet at Llanberris at 9.20 for a 9.30am departure, or at the Daylesford Lake carpark at 10am.

Llanberris is the carpark immediately on your left as you turn left off Main Rd into Eureka St, coming from Buninyong.

Distance: 7.5kms

Grade: B

Bring morning tea.

We will walk from the lake via Twin Bridges to Tipperary Springs on the western side of Sailors Creek and return, as the east side is still closed due to storm damage. This is an easy walk but at times the track is single file and could be slippery if it has recently rained. It is a pretty walk, with lovely views down to the creek. Morning tea at Tipperary Springs and coffee/lunch afterwards in Daylesford. Toilets are available at both Lake Daylesford and Tipperary Springs.
